A Generic KB Pedagogy
Next > |
This knowledge building pedagogical design was used by a General Studies teacher for his class of Primary 4 students. He adopted the same basic design throughout the three years participating in the KBTN project, but every year new elements were added. In the second year, the teacher used a news article (i.e. an authentic scenario) to stimulate the students’ generation of inquiry questions. In the third year, the teacher further refined his design by intervening in students’ discussion. |

Highlights of design:
- Use of scaffolds
- Focus on six W’s (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How) to facilitate question generation
- Presentation of real-world situations at more refined levels of KB
Learning outcomes:
- When authentic real-world scenarios are used to generate questions, more hypothetical questions are produced
- Quality of question generation becomes higher in later stages
- Increasingly varied types of questions generated
