F2F and online discussion

Open discussion with the students is initiated. Under the teacher’s guidance, the class chooses the questions most worthy of further discussion to answer, with one of the consideration points being whether a particular question was realistic. The questions are put onto a “KB wall”, which is a physical wall students use to share memo notes containing their thoughts and ideas. Responses and other questions are then posted onto the “Knowledge Forum” (KF) for further discussion.

Examples of a productive discussion thread from Year 1 of a primary school science class:

  • 為甚麼雌蕊和雄蕊要在同一朵花上?
    1. 方便傳播花粉,因爲如果有一朵花没有有雄蕊,蜜蜂就不能吸取花粉,不能去傳播花粉。
    1. 我認為因為它們要繁殖下一代。 因為雄蕊提供花粉,雌蕊有花房,當花粉與花房結合,便可繁殖下一代。
    1. 有些植物是雌雄同花的,但有些植物却是雌雄異花的。雌雄同花的是一朵花有雌蕊和雄蕊,大部分雌蕊都是在花的正中下接子房上接柱頭的,圍繞四周上有花藥,花粉的是雄蕊!
